Charity of the Month: Edmonton Firefighter Burn Treatment Society

At Parati Yoga & Wellness, we believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back. Each month, we highlight a charity that is making a significant impact, and for this month, we are thrilled to support the Edmonton Firefighter Burn Treatment Society (EFBTS). This cause is particularly close to our hearts, as our own son is a burn survivor. We have witnessed firsthand the incredible work that EFBTS does, and we are committed to supporting their mission.

About the Edmonton Firefighter Burn Treatment Society

EFBTS LOGO

The Edmonton Firefighter Burn Treatment Society (EFBTS) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for burn survivors. Founded by Edmonton firefighters in 1977, the society focuses on prevention, education, and treatment of burn injuries. Their initiatives extend beyond immediate medical care to include long-term support and rehabilitation for survivors, ensuring they receive the best possible care throughout their recovery journey.

Key Initiatives of EFBTS

  1. Burn Treatment and Rehabilitation: EFBTS funds advanced medical equipment and research to improve burn treatment methods. They work closely with the University of Alberta Hospital’s Firefighters Burn Unit to provide cutting-edge care for patients.

  2. Public Education and Prevention: EFBTS runs programs to educate the public about fire safety and burn prevention. These initiatives aim to reduce the incidence of burn injuries through awareness and proactive measures.

  3. Support for Burn Survivors: The society offers extensive support for burn survivors, including financial assistance, counseling, and access to specialized rehabilitation services.

Alberta Burn Camp

One of the most remarkable programs supported by EFBTS is the Alberta Burn Camp, which started in 1988. This camp is a pivotal week for young burn survivors, offering them a unique opportunity to connect with others who have had similar experiences. At Alberta Burn Camp, children aged 7 to 17 can enjoy a week of fun, adventure, and healing in a supportive and understanding environment. The camp activities are tailored to help build confidence, resilience, and a sense of community among participants, all while they make lasting memories.

Burn Camp is filled with dedicated volunteers, including burn nurses, firefighters, and even plastic surgeons, creating a safe and nurturing environment for the children. You can learn more about Burn Camp here or more about EFBTS here.
